Supporting military sporting success

AG’s support for military veterans continues as the fourth recipient of a specially adapted wheelchair is celebrated at a special event in the Speaker’s House

Pete Lauder was gifted his specially adapted wheelchair at an event hosted by Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the Speaker of the House of Commons. The former RAF Sergeant became a Paralympian, competing in wheelchair rugby as well as seated volleyball, cross fit and swimming, after military service. He was selected to represent Scotland in the 2022 Wheelchair Rugby World Cup and also took part in the RAF Benevolent Fund at the veteran games in the same year.

The new wheelchair, gifted by The OppO Foundation with a donation from Ambassadeurs Group (AG), is the first that Pete has owned and means he will be able to continue to pursue his ambition in competitive sport. He called the surprise gift ‘phenomenal’ and ‘life-changing’.

Sport is well-documented as life-enhancing both mentally and physically for military veterans. ‘We’ve heard some amazing stories from some of our veterans,’ said former Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston at the event. ‘But we have also heard how their lives have been changed by the Foundation through sports equipment, and particularly the wheelchairs that enable them to be national elite athletes in their field.’
